Schroth Therapy
What is
The Schroth method is a conservative and non-invasive form of treatment for idiopathic scoliosis.
The three-dimensional therapeutic approach to scoliosis aims at straightening the spine through active elongation of the spine, derotation of the vertebrae through three-dimensional breathing, and toning and stretching of the muscles in the maximum corrective position.
How to apply?
Exercises specific to the Schroth method are characterized by: correct postural position, three-dimensional breathing and stabilization through muscular strength. At Genki Medical Center the Scroth Therapy exercises we use are customized for each patient, depending on their spinal deviation, age and associated pathologies. Approximately 30 sessions of 50 minutes each are needed to learn the exercises under the supervision and guidance of the therapists, and after this period, the exercises must be continued daily at home by the patient until the next evaluation.
What conditions are treated?
Exercises specific to the Schroth method are performed according to the severity and type of curvature of the condition, as well as the mobility and ability of the patients. The aim is to create perception and awareness of the new posture through posture, repetition and breathing. Schroth therapy is indicated as a conservative treatment for changes in vertebral statics, namely: scoliosis, hyperkyphosis, hyperlorosis.
Benefits
This therapy improves the poor posture of every patient, regardless of age and eliminates the symptoms of already established scoliosis, and the benefits and effectiveness of the therapy appear in a short time. Schroth therapy also improves postural alignment and cardiopulmonary function in addition to halting and reducing the progression of curvatures.
