Ergon/IASTM therapy
What is
Ergon / IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) is a manual therapy consisting of assisted soft tissue mobilization using a specialized instrument. The role of this therapy is to effectively target and treat areas of fibrosis, chronic inflammation or degeneration. The technique has immediate effects, being an effective, non-invasive procedure. A session lasts 10-15 minutes depending on the area and condition being treated.
Avoid sensitive structures, bony prominences, highly vascularised areas and superficially innervated regions.
How to apply?
The instruments act mechanically on the tissues, during manipulation the skin and superficial tissues move in the opposite direction to the direction of movement of the muscles, which allows the adhesions between these structures to be broken. The therapy also generates a neuroproproprioceptive response: any touch stimulates receptors in the skin, muscles, tendons, etc., triggering an appropriate response. Proprioception is the body’s ability to orient itself in space, to contract or relax certain muscles at the right time. IASTM tools act on mechanoceptors by inhibiting the Gamma motor system. This means that the tone of the muscles being acted upon will decrease, which means that the pain caused by muscle contractions at this level will also decrease.
What conditions does Ergon Therapy treat?
Epicondylitis
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Muscle pain in the spine
Plantar fasciitis
Tendonitis
Heel pain / Achilles tendonitis
DeQuervain syndrome
Post-surgical interventions/post-traumatic scars
Myofascial pain
Musculoskeletal imbalance
Chronic joint inflammation
Sprains, strains
Stretches,
Muscle or ligament tears
Non-acute bursitis
RSD (reflex sympathetic dystrophy)
Lombalgii
Hip joint pain (dysplasia)
Iliotibial band syndrome
Acute or chronic ankle joint pain
Post surgical scars
Ergon/IASTM benefits
With the help of this treatment technique important benefits are obtained such as:
Tissue scar reduction
Proliferation of enlarged fibroblasts
Increased vascular response
Collagen fibre matrix remodelling
Improved range of motion
Improved muscle strength and endurance
Decreased pain perception
